Billboard Reviews "One Step At A Time"
Posted on Jun 14, 2008 by Max 0 Comments
Billboard.com recently reviewed "One Step At A Time." It's a good one! Thanks to jdanton2 at IdolForums.com for the info.

Who knew? While "American Idol" season six champ Jordin Sparks possesses plenty of talent, previous youthful finalists—Katharine McPhee a prime example—have been driven to record painfully mismatched material with disastrous results. Thanks to Jive (now Sony BMG) chief Barry Weiss, Sparks' debut release continues to emit far-reaching pop/R&B vitality. "Tattoo" was a mere hint of her potential, while prodigious No. 3 follow-up "No Air" with Chris Brown will be heard for years to come. "One Step at a Time" is a beautifully blended, soulful number percolating with optimism, produced and co-written by Robbie Nevil, best-known for 1986 smash "C'est La Vie" but more recently involved with "High School Musical" and "Hannah Montana." Sparks has ignited potential to become an enduring name brand, propelling past the "Idol" stamp.

—Chuck Taylor

It's always a good thing to hear positive feedback for Jordin's songs, and I'm glad she's getting the recognition she deserves. This single is sure to be a hit as well.
Jordin Updates Cosmo Blog
Posted on Jun 14, 2008 by Max 0 Comments
I don't know if I mentioned this in a previous update or not, I don't think I did, but Jordin is blogging from the tour for Cosmopolitan Magazine's website. So far she has four, the latest one being posted yesterday:

We're in Canada! Montreal, Quebec, actually. It's kind of rainy and chilly and reminds me of Seattle...except that everyone speaks French. At first, I felt so out of place, but the Canadians are so kind and helpful to my Nana and me.

Our first day in Canada we went out to explore, but since we can't read French, we got kind of lost on the metro...

Jordin Comments On Sophomore Album
Posted on Jun 14, 2008 by Max 0 Comments
Jordin made a comment referring to her next album and what she has learned so far! She also made some comments on the Alicia Keys tour.

Sparks says she is looking forward to working on her next album, when she will get a chance to write more and have more control over what it sounds like.

"I'm so new to this, I don't really know what I had planned," she says. "I mean, we didn't really have a specific sound we were going for, anything like that. What I kind of did is, we would go through the songs, and I just picked songs that I liked, that I just thought I related to in some sort of way, that I knew that I wouldn't mind singing in a couple of years, and that kind of helped me. ... And as far as the producers go, yes, I was intimidated a little bit. I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh, I don't know what's going on.' But they were all really, really cool, really nice. They helped me out a lot and showed me some really cool things in the studio."

For Sparks, the learning curve is natural. She's eager to try her hand at producing, as well. She looks at it as just another challenge, one of many she's learned to deal with since winning "American Idol," including the health scare earlier this year, when she lost her voice for a few days.

"I've had a lot of things happen," Sparks says. "I've had a couple of deaths in the family, just thrown on top of all the stress ... and it was crazy how things kind of - how things kind of worked out. But it was cool, because I had my family to help me out, and it was cool because they helped me become stronger as a person, and they were able to help, you know - 'It's OK, Jordin. Just let things go and you'll be fine, and you can do this,' and so it was just really cool to see that happen."

To the tour with Alicia:

It's a mix that even fits her current tour of arenas, her first without her " American Idol" pals, opening for Alicia Keys - an idea that couldn't have even been a dream 18 months ago. "When they told me that I was going with her, my jaw just dropped to the floor," Sparks says. "I was like, seriously? Really? Alicia Keys that has the No. 1 album in the country right now wants me to be out on her tour? ... I sang 'Fallin,' I mean, I don't know how many times, for friends and family and some competitions, so it's just crazy that everything's kind of coming full circle for me from singing her stuff to now opening up for her. Wow, it's insane."

And to the album sales, which many mistakenly view as disappointing. I think she's done amazing so far, and she's still gaining popularity!

"I'm pretty sure it's just the way the industry is changing, because I know even before any of this happened - I just wanted the song, and not so much maybe the whole album, unless it was really good," she says. "I'm proud of the numbers that I've sold, because I've just broken in this thing, and I'm working on it, so I'm excited. From [when Kelly Clarkson won in 2002] to now, everything has changed so much, and it's all about downloading and iTunes and singles, and so I kind of think that's what part of it is, but I'm really glad that my singles are doing well."

It honestly sounds like Jordin's album is going to have a lot of influence in it from all the things that have happened to her, and I really hope we get to hear some original songs which have lyrics that reflect that on her next album.
Album Shoot In High Quality
Posted on Jun 13, 2008 by Max 0 Comments
Wow, this has been a pretty good day for the gallery if you ask me. I just added 7 HQ pictures from Jordin's photoshoot for her album back in 2007. There are some never-before-seen pics in here, and she looks amazing in them. I really love the one where she's standing in the circular thing!

I think I have some inspiration for that new gallery layout now, but I may have my friend make it if he is up for it! Hopefully either way it'll be up soon.

I've added 11 more photos of Jordin from the Puerto Rican day parade. I really love the way she looks here, she's so pretty.

The new gallery layout is not going well so far. I seem to have no inspiration at the moment, but hopefully something will come to me soon.

I've added 10 candids to the gallery of Jordin hanging out at Six Flags America in Maryland. All credit goes to Just Jared.

I'll try and add the versions that don't have the Just Jared tag on them later on, once I get them.

"One Step At A Time" Single Cover
Posted on Jun 12, 2008 by Max 0 Comments
The cover for "One Step At A Time" as a single has been released. I really like it, especially the picture they chose from the album shoot:

I hope this song becomes as big as "Tattoo" and "No Air" and does just as well. It's got a great video and hopefully will have good airplay, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Jordin has been featured in the June issue of Essence Magazine. I'll see if I can pick up a copy later today when I wake up and run some errands, and have the scans in this evening for everyone. Here's a little preview of the first of three pages:
